MCC Golf third in final fall meet

McCook Community College Golf
LAMAR, Colo. – The McCook Community College golf team finished the fall schedule Friday with a third-place finish in the Lamar Community College tournament held at the Spreading Antlers course. MCC began the day in a tie for second place but dropped four shots in the final round.

“We started today within four of the lead, which is the closest we’ve been all year,” said MCC Coach Grant Case. “It was nice to be in that position today, things just didn’t end up going our way.”

Eastern Wyoming claimed the win with a two-day score of 580. Lamar was second at 591 and MCC finished with four strokes back at 595. MCC had rounds of 295 and 300. On Thursday, MCC and Lamar were tied at 295 – which was four shots behind the first-place Lancers.

“Overall we’re pretty happy with the fall season we’ve had, especially getting freshman a taste of what college golf is like,” said Case.

Two MCC players started the day in a four-way tie for second place and were just one shot off the lead. Freshman Freddie Wilson, (Basingstoke, England) and sophomore Louis Yin (Tainan, Taiwan) both posted 71s Thursday to lead the Indians. They both shot rounds of 76 on Friday to finish in a tie for fifth place – seven over par.

Freshman Trenton Raile (McCook) was one of two Indians to post team-low 74s (four over par) Friday and finished in a tie for 11th place with a two-day 152.

William Clayton (freshman, West Malling, England) had rounds of 75 and 81 to finish with a 156.

Not included in the team scoring, sophomore Jeb Kastens (Rawlins County High School, Atwood, Kan.) who tied for the team’s low score Friday with his 74, improving nine shots from Thursday to finish at 157. Braiden Portie (sophomore, Arvada, Colo.) had rounds of 78 and 89 to finish at 167.

“We’re all ready to take some time off and get back into the swing of things again during the spring,” said Case.

The 2026-27 schedule will resume March 11-12 when the Region IX field returns to Lamar for the two-day combined Lamar-Otero Tournament with the Friday round being played at La Junta. MCC will host the second tournament of the spring slate at Heritage Hills Golf Course March 18-19.
